Friends of Lois W.

public - created 02/17/05
Lois Wilson was the wife of Bill Wilson, who along with Dr. Bob Smith, co-founded Alcoholics Anonymous. Lois and Dr. Bob's wife Ann Smith were the original members and co-founders of Al-Anon, which took the basic principles of the 12 Steps and of AA and applied them to their own lives, i.e. that of living with and loving alcoholics.

Al-Anon Family Groups is a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery.

Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help the families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps ourselves, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic.
